How Handiwork tools and guides are reviewed

The practical standards behind our calculations, explanations, sources, privacy claims, dates, and corrections. Last updated July 12, 2026.

Who publishes Handiwork

Handiwork is an independently built collection of first-party browser tools and practical guides. The brand is the publisher; we do not invent named experts, credentials, or reviewers. When a topic needs authority beyond the implementation itself, the page links to the standard, public agency, or institution used to check the claim.

The site has one primary purpose: helping people complete small tasks while understanding what the result means. A working utility is the starting point, not the end of the page. Important tools explain their formula or method, assumptions, limitations, and source material.

Our review checklist

A manual review considers the tool and its surrounding guidance together. We use repeatable logic checks for representative formulas and formats, then review the user-facing claims against the behavior that actually ships.

  • The tool performs the job described in its title and instructions.
  • Examples, boundary cases, units, rounding, and failure states are checked.
  • Consequential health, finance, accessibility, and security claims link to primary sources.
  • Assumptions and cases the tool does not handle are visible on the page.
  • Privacy wording distinguishes tool input from analytics, logs, browser storage, and downloads.
  • Titles and descriptions summarize the page without promising unsupported accuracy or safety.

Sources and consequential topics

Health, finance, education, security, and accessibility can affect real decisions. On those pages, we prefer primary material such as CDC and CFPB guidance, NIST publications, IETF standards, and W3C specifications. Sources support the stated method; they do not imply that the source organization endorses Handiwork.

A source cannot remove model limitations. The BMI calculator remains a screening aid, a loan payment remains an estimate that can omit fees, and a password meter remains a heuristic. These boundaries are written beside the result rather than hidden in a general disclaimer.

Review dates and change dates

A “reviewed” date means the method and the visible claims on that page were checked together on that date. It is not automatically stamped onto the entire catalog. Sitemap modification dates are omitted when the site cannot provide an accurate page-level date; we do not claim that every URL changed merely because the site was rebuilt.

Privacy claims

“Runs in your browser” refers to the text, file, number, or secret placed inside a tool. It does not mean a webpage has no hosting logs, analytics, cookies, or network requests. The browser-data guide explains that distinction and shows how to inspect a local-processing claim with harmless sample data. The Privacy Policy covers site-level data practices.

Advertising boundaries

Handiwork may be supported by advertising so the tools can remain free. Advertising does not change a formula, result, source choice, or recommendation. Ads must remain visually separate from inputs, buttons, results, navigation, and error or completion screens. We do not globally load ad-serving code across every route; monetization is considered only for pages with substantial publisher-created content.

Corrections and feedback

If a result, description, source, or assumption appears wrong, send the URL, the inputs you used, the result you expected, and an authoritative reference if available. We will reproduce the case, correct the implementation or wording, and update the review date when the change is material. Use the contact page to report an issue.

General-use limitation

Handiwork provides general educational and productivity tools. It is not a medical, financial, legal, academic, engineering, or security professional, and a browser result is not an official record. Verify decisions that affect health, money, safety, compliance, or academic standing with the responsible professional or institution.
