About the Handiwork Decision Wheel

The Decision Wheel lets you list options and spin a colorful wheel to pick one at random. Use quick presets, shuffle the order, copy a winner, remove the selected option before the next round, and review recent results — a fair, visible way to handle casual choices.

How to use the Handiwork Decision Wheel

  1. Pick a preset or enter one option per line (at least two).
  2. Click Spin the wheel or press Space.
  3. Copy the winner, remove it for a no-repeat round, or review and copy the recent-winner history.

When random choice helps

Sometimes analysis paralysis slows a group down. A random picker removes bias and speeds up low-stakes decisions — who presents first, which restaurant to try, or which chore is yours this week. The wheel makes the outcome visible and shared.

Accessible results

The winner is announced through a live status region so screen reader users hear the result when the spin completes, while sighted users see the highlighted winner text below the wheel.

How equal-probability selection works

Every entered line creates one equal-sized wheel segment. A cryptographically strong browser random value selects the winning segment, and the animation rotates the chosen segment to the pointer. Shuffling changes the visible order but does not change the one-segment, one-chance probability model.

Assumptions and limitations

  • Equal-sized options receive equal probability, including duplicate labels. Remove duplicates if each named choice should appear only once.
  • The wheel has no public seed or independent audit trail and is intended for casual decisions, not regulated or high-stakes selection.
  • A wheel accepts at most 12 options and does not have a separate weighting control. Removing a winner is a manual action after each spin.
  • Long labels are shortened on the wheel graphic, although the complete winning label is shown in the result.

Frequently asked questions

How many options can I add?

You can add up to 12 options. Keep each option short so labels stay readable on the wheel.

Is the spin truly random?

Each spin uses the Web Crypto API to choose a pseudorandom rotation, giving equal-sized options the same probability. Use it for casual decisions, not regulated or high-stakes drawings that require an auditable process.

Can I give one option a higher chance?

There is no separate weighting control. Repeating a label creates another equal-sized segment and therefore another chance, but duplicates are treated as separate entries.

Does shuffling make the result more random?

No. Shuffling changes only the visible order of the segments. Each spin already selects among the entered segments using browser-provided cryptographic random values.

Can I prevent the same option from winning again?

After a spin, choose Remove winner to delete that selected entry before the next round. This is manual so you can decide whether repeats are allowed.
