How to calculate GPA
Your GPA (grade point average) is a credit-weighted average of your course grades for one term. Each letter grade maps to a number of grade points on your chosen scale (for example A = 4.0, B = 3.0). Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add those weighted totals together, and divide by your total credits: GPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). A four-credit A contributes more than a one-credit A because credits act as the weight for each grade. Grades such as P (pass), NP (not pass), I (incomplete), and W (withdrawal) are not included — only letter grades with assigned point values count toward your GPA.
How to calculate CGPA
Your CGPA (cumulative grade point average) is the credit-weighted average of every semester in your program. In the CGPA tab, enter each semester’s GPA and the number of credits you took that term. The calculator multiplies each semester’s GPA by its credits, adds those weighted totals, and divides by the total credits across all semesters: CGPA = Σ(semester GPA × credits) ÷ Σ(credits). A heavier semester (more credits) moves your cumulative average more than a lighter one, so a strong full-load term counts for more than a light summer term. GPA vs CGPA: what’s the difference?
GPA usually measures a single term or semester, calculated from individual course grades and credits. CGPA (also called cumulative GPA) rolls all of your completed semesters into one overall figure. In short: your GPA tells you how a given semester went, while your CGPA reflects your performance across your entire degree so far. Use the GPA tab to turn this term’s course grades into a semester GPA, then add that GPA (with its credits) to the CGPA tab alongside your previous semesters to track your cumulative standing over time.

Built-in presets cover the most common systems: US Standard 4.0 (A+ through F with plus/minus modifiers), US 4.3 (A+ = 4.3), US 4.0 without plus/minus (A–F only), and a 10-point scale used by many universities outside the US.
